SRP SUBSTATION - SHADE LATERN, Scottsdale Arizona 2009

CONCEPT: Shade Lantern combines visual phenomena caused by power, sun and shadow to create a dynamic landmark for the SRP substation. The central feature of the shade lantern is a large slow moving fan that casts shadows across layers of aluminum mesh drapery. The mesh reveals the movement of shadows through the space. The Fan is an expression of the electrical current.

CONTEXT: SRP Sub-Station at the intersection of the Arizona Canal, 68th Street and Indian School Road. The art element occupies the 24' x 24' archiectural shade element designed for the public space in front of the power station.
