 Papago Arroyo Wildlife Corridor, 1998-99

Tempe, Arizona

The flood wash that bisects this corporate campus is an example of site integrated artwork. Project artist Laurie Lundquist worked closely with the design build firm Sunstate Builders to allow the wash to ramain as a wild streak running through the otherwise paved and tamed corner of Papago Park. This project was funded by Sunstate Builders to comply with the City of Tempe's Art Private Development ordinance.

Wetland plants thrive in the wash and recover easily from periodic flood events.

Recirculation improves the quality of water traversing the site.

The Stone Bridge refers to the long history of irrigation in and around this site. Water flows across the bridge in steel "trough handrails" and returns to the pond below.   Detail of spiral trough and stair step falls.
